Institutional Effectiveness

Institutional Effectiveness (IE) is the ongoing, comprehensive, and integrated research-based planning and evaluation process at California Indian Nations College. The department engages in efforts to continuously improve institutional quality and effectiveness through the systematic review of institutional goals and outcomes consistent with the mission of the college.

Assessment

Assessment of outcomes is a college-wide process of identifying expected outcomes, assessing the achievement of these outcomes, and providing evidence of improvement based on the analysis of the results. California Indian Nations College engages in multiple assessment cycles to include administrative support services, educational support services, and cultural and academic programs. The various assessment cycles ensure ongoing accountability and quality improvements to support the mission and the goals of the institution.

California Indian Nations College evaluates student achievement as it relates to the mission of the college to offer a culturally-responsive academic curriculum rooted in Native American values and to provide personalized support to advance the success of Native and non-Native students.

Research Request

CINC encourages and supports the scholarly endeavors of its students, faculty, and staff, as well as other educational institutions and organizations. The College acknowledges pursuit of scholarly research will often involve the use of human subjects for data collection and analysis. In conducting such research, it is necessary to ensure that the rights and welfare of human subjects are protected, the risks have been considered and minimized, and the potential benefit must be identified and maximized. For such research, all human subject participation is voluntary and only after provided with a legally effective process for informed consent. Lastly, all research much be conducted in an ethical manner and in compliance with established standards.

Research Procedure

All individuals who propose to conduct research, including human subjects research, should submit an Institutional Research Board Application for Review to the office of Institutional Effectiveness. The IRB Application for Review (for researchers) and the IRB Review Sheet (for reviewers) can be found in Teams. All external requests must have IRB approval from the home institution of the researcher.

  1. Upon receipt of the appropriate IRB documentation, the office of Institutional Effectiveness will convene an IRB committee to review the application. The committee will consider issues including research protocol, Native American community considerations, protection of human subjects, and institutional resources.
  2. The recommendation of the IRB committee will be submitted to the President. All external requests are subject to the approval of the President. At the discretion of the President, the Board of Trustees will be informed of third-party research.
  3. If approved, the Office of Institutional Effectiveness will coordinate the research request with the researcher.
